DIY: How to Create a Sculptural Wall Hanging
When changing up the look of our living room I knew that I wanted to keep the earthy vibes but pivot from being “zen” to more “coastal”. One of the ways that I did that was by changing out the artwork that was above our record player to a hand-made sculptural wall hanging. After seeing something similar on Instagram and tracking down the source, I realized that that particular piece was going to be outside of my budget. Instead of giving up on the idea though I decided to try to make my own! So many of you have been asking about this piece and how to make something similar, so today we are giving you the step-by-step on how to create a sculptural wall hanging. Step 01
Select a stick to use. There aren’t any rules when it comes to making your selection, you just want to make sure that it’s sturdy and is propotioned to the scale of your wall hanging.
Step 02
Gather the rest of your supplies. Along with string and scissors you will also need some wooden beads and curtain rings. You’ll have to do some digging for the curtain rings but more often than not they can be found at your local thrift store. When making your selection, try to get collections in a variety of sizes and colors. This will add interest to your piece.
Step 03
Layout your design. I like to start with my smaller curtain rings at the top followed by a strand of wooden beads. When you get to the middle is where you can really get creative with your design. Play around with it and don’t be afraid to be adventerous. You can always start over.
Step 04
After you’ve laid out your design you can begin to piece it all together. Take your string and determine how far off you want to piece to be from the wood. After you’ve decided begin to piece
